Mummified mammoth

This is Lyuba, the best preserved woolly mammoth in the world. She was only a month old when she died and is around 40 000 years old. You can still see the little tufts of hair on her legs and the skin is amazingly well preserved.

Mammoth mummy is just one of many interesting things to see at the 'Mammoths of the Ice Age' exhibition at National Museum in Edinburgh, anything from a full sized replica of short faced bear, which makes you feel like a dwarf, to a complete skeleton of a mastodon, which makes you wonder how crazy our ancestors were to actually hunt these creatures.

Well worth a ticket price!
