Valentines continued...

Today we went away to Wanaka, deciding this should be a really nice thing, I hired a little convertible for us and a room with a view. Knowing that a "cute" car would be appreciated and with the Crown Range to be driven over, the MX5 by Mazda was a clear winner.

The worlds best selling roadster lived up to expectations, this model from 1998 has no traction control, it has been a long time since I drove one of these at a track day and it had traction control so caution was the name of the game. Tearing up the ribbon of road the wheels were screeching on the first turn, that was a relief. My biggest fear was sending it into the mountainside.

A cold wind at home ensured the roof was up until the evening, once the weather cleared it became clear that driving the west coast with the wind in your hair is what these cars were invented for.

The apartments we were staying at were very relaxed and presumably owned and run by a couple or just the woman who greeted us. The self contained apartment with lake and mountain view is somewhere to stay for more than one night. Consisting of 2 bedrooms, kitchen, lounge, bathroom and laundry! There were only 2 televisions, 1 couch and 4 lazyboy chairs so you might think it was cramped after you throw in a dining table but no. There was heaps of space, we didn't even use both balconies but definately enjoyed the panoramic views from the windows on 3 sides of the apartment. The morning will bring a new blip and a fantastic view.
