The Piece Hall, in Halifax, West Yorkshire, is a unique Grade 1 Listed building of extraordinary significance. It is one of only two fully intact cloth halls in Europe, and the only one in Britain. Built in 1779, it is a supreme example of pre-industrial Georgian architecture.
The Victorian Square Church, opened in 1857, was largely destroyed by fire in 1971 and finally demolished in 1976. Except, that is, for its 235-foot spire (at the time of construction the second tallest in Yorkshire), which still stands infront of the Piece Hall as one of Halifax's most recognizable landmarks.see large
