John Abbott

George Abbot (19 October 1562 – 5 August 1633) was an English divine and Archbishop of Canterbury.[1][2][3] He also served as the fourth Chancellor of Trinity College, Dublin, between 1612 and 1633.

He was born in Guildford, and is remembered there with his Hospital (www.abbotshospital.org) a statue in the High Street, a pub and also a secondary school (George Abbot School) named after him. His tomb can be seen in Holy Trinity Church.

The statue is at the top of the cobbled section of the High Street, giving him a view of both the upper and lower sections of the street, plus North St and Chertsey St.

We walk past him, every time we go downtown.
