Les Troglodytes

In the hills above the town of Samur there are some caves.
And in those caves are some Troglodytes or cave-dwellers.
These "Trogs" are mainly Artisans who live and work in houses and workshops that have been hewn into the side of the chalk hills. They have all mod-cons in those caves, and some of them look pretty spectacular.
We went for a visit to the site and a cup of tea in one of the coffee shop. I asked the Patron in my best French for a cup of tea, and he replied in a Mancunian accent that he spoke English and made proper tea. This bloke turned out to be from Stockport who came over top France ten years ago on holiday, found a girlfriend and never left.
He was a mine of information about the local area and France in general and we chatted for almost an hour. He was well pleased to speak to someone in English as the caves are a bit off the tourist track and he doesn't come across too many English people. That night the whole community was having a barbecue and we were cordially invited. Unfortunately, we had other plans, but I regret to this day not going.
