Three French Medalists!

Here's a TV image of the three leaders in the final of the Men's Ski Cross at the Winter Olympics in Sochi (MUET means I've muted it). All three are French; they are taking the last jump and will cross the finish line in a few seconds (it's just out of sight below). Everyone on French TV was ecstatic, and it showed images of the winner's family and friends in France viewing the finals throughout.

The French have 15 medals through today (Thursday). We arrived in Paris just at the beginning of the Olympics on the 6th of February and we have greatly enjoyed following the games here. Fortunately we both understand French quite well (Marylee better than me). Sochi is only 3 hours ahead of France, so we've seen almost everything in real time, with relatively fewl commercials. (So much better than the sliced and diced shows that American TV is doubtless presenting.)

Finally, I took a video of the French anthem, the Marsaillaise, played at the medal ceremony for the trio. It's my favorite national anthem, other than perhaps ours. The best ever rendition of the Marsaillaise has to be in the film Casablanca, with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman--my favorite film :)
