Trains, etc.

The view from the window at Hotel Avalon. Along this railway line trundle the most enormous freight trains. They literally make the hotel shake. Two diesel engines and dozens of trucks. The passenger trains are, by comparison, very quiet. We are protected from noise by the fact that there is quadruple glazing on the window. A double glazed window with, inside secondary double glazing which is itself double glazed. But we still get the rumbles.

You can also see the Riga City Market which is located in five enormous reused Zeppelin hangars just the other side of the railway (and a river, and also the bus station - it all happens around this part of the city).
