Goodbye Anglesey

Our little trip to Anglesey started with the Menai Bridge in the distance so here is a close up of it as we left Anglesey today on a very wet and windy day. The suspension bridge (the first in the world?) was completed in 1826 to a design by that wonderful engineer Thomas Telford as part of his commission to complete the A5 trunk road from London to Holyhead. The road was designed to take the mail coaches from London all the way across England and Wales to the ferry port at Holyhead and so is never more that 5% in gradient. It has now been designated of historical importance and many of its features such as toll houses are being re-instated. We followed the route from Anglesey almost to the town of Telford today before branching off towards Bridgnorth on our route home.

The weather here is a little calmer than it was in Wales but we've had a really good short break. Back to work tomorrow!
