Mayhem on the Mekong

Mayhem on the Mekong

Professor Steve Darby, University of Southampton

Monday 24 February at The Royal Geographical Society

The Mekong River is a biodiversity hotspot of global significance, threatened by rapid hydro-power development. Steve explains why preserving the Mekong's annual flooding is integral to the future of the river and its delta.

Fascinating lecture into the scientific study of one of the world's most complex and biodiverse rivers. Through greater understanding comes the realisation of the damaging effects that panned hydroelectric dams will have on the productivity of the Mekong.

With this new knowledge, one can only hope that the policy makers take note and act to prevent an ecological and humanitarian catastrophe.
