When the going gets weird

For our last full day in Brussels, we decided to make a second attempt at brunching in the Venerable Waffle house we made failed to eat in on the first day. With a better idea of where we were going and better weather, there was no threat to our temper and we arrived in good time. Belgian waffles come in two styles. Brussels, which are crisp and light, or Liege waffles, which are doughier and kind of stocky. Particularly when smothered in chocolate sauce like Riot's ones were.

After the waffles we took a trip to the Magritte Museum. If I'm honest, I felt it was a bit of a con. They didn't really have any of his famous pieces in their collection. There was also a tendency towards having multiple versions of the same painting from different private collections (he was clearly a business man just as much as an artist). None the less, there was some cool stuff.

Once we had a quick-lunch we decided to take a tube out to the Atomium. The Atomium is the big metal baws contraption that outside broadcast units always park in front of if they want you to know they're in Brussels. It was built for a world fair at some point in the 60's and it's been there ever since. It's quite a funny looking thing. Worth a look, but I couldn't face queuing with all the screaming kids just to go up for a look. As Riot said "you'd probably end up punching a child".

For the evening we made one last assault on Belgium's Beers. This time we visited two branches of the fantastic Moeder Lambic, which again had a staggering selection of brilliant beer on offer (as well as some great cheese).
