Helleborus foetidus

Just opening now, these are the flowers of Helleborus foetidus. The little thimble flowers with delicate purple edges have a faint fragrance. The leaves, are from where the botanical name; they have an unpleasant smell when crushed. These plants seed around the garden lightly, which is a good thing as they don’t take kindly to division. Another wonderful winter gift of the garden!
