Calder Colors at the Pompidou

A midday outing to the Pompidou Center with our friends Ann and Charley, under light rain. This is just outside the entrance, with a stabile (opposite of mobile) by the American artist Alexander Calder (1898-1976). The family with three children (one lagging behind) were partly color coordinated. Calder in fact used the primary colors to a major extent in his prints and other works on paper. (At the top of the image is a display for the marvelous Cartier-Bresson exhibition, which we saw a few days ago.)

Today we visited primarily a superb exhibition entitled "Surrealism and the Object", focusing mainly on the Surrealist movement's emphasis on using objects in its art. In fact it went well beyond that main theme, and I found it altogether fascinating. (It closes soon, on March 3rd, but if you can get there before then, do go!)
