Spruing and gating

Today was again the bronze art casting class in Valimoinstituutti. I have molded also another work, a polar bear candle holder, so now I have two works that I'll cast. Today I built a network of wax and stick rods, called sprues and gates, that were attached to my wax models. These sprues will serve as a type of channel system, which will feed the molten metal to all of the areas of the sculpture, as well as allow gases and air to escape. Also, a wax funnel and a pouring cup were attached to the gates for use during pouring. Tomorrow we'll work the ceramic shell.
