The witches of Warwickshire

One of my favourite villages in Warwickshire is a tiny place called Lower Quinton, the pub on the village green is one that I visited for many years even as a child my parents would take us out to lunch here, it's famous for its ham and eggs and lovely they are too.

There's nothing better than in the winter sitting by one of its log fires and keeping warm.

In 1945 Lower quinton hit the headlines for very different reasons and it always held a macabre fascination with me, many of the tiny black and white cottages would hang tiny witches in their windows, a native of the village was found murdered on the night of 14th February 1945 at a farm known as The Firs. The murder weapon was a pitchfork.

The case earned considerable notoriety because some believe he was killed as a blood sacrifice or as part of a witchcraft ceremony.

The chief suspect was the manager of the Firs.

It is presently the oldest unsolved murder on the Warwickshire Constabulary records, and well worth reading up on to as it has so many twists and turns.

This is Roo trying to solve the mystery of the pitchfork murders.

Maybe a good story for midsummer murders?

Call on Inspector Rooseau!!

Not now Cato!
