the first fly...

Rather than work I made use of the lovely sunshine and grabbed the boys to go for a walk in the Hermitage. It was rather nice. It was quite difficult to decide which of today's photos I should take for my blip. Well, I found the first fly for me this year. So, this may indicate what is to come... (can't wait for more sunshine).

I reckon it is a drone-fly (Eristalis tenax) a rather good honey bee mimic. I only have a very general insect ID book but the description matched fairly well. I might well have to invest in a hoverfly book since I seem to take lots of pictures of them.
