'Roderick and his Kora'

I went along to a really special gig last night, didn't arrive home until 2am so back blipping this from yesterday.

Ben Kelly was hosting a fundraising event for Amnesty International while also recording a live gig for release later this year. This is his last Melbourne gig before hitting to road touring again. He was joined by a brilliant bunch of musicians on stage and a really eclectic mix of world instruments. The vibe of the room was really high and Sooki's Lounge in Belgrave was jam packed with punters to support the night.

Found out that the Sooki Lounge & Tapas Bar used to be Ruby's Bar which was where MsMun and I ended up on our first ever date in the middle of a huge electrical storm. That was a very special night as after we'd just arrived there was a power outage and the staff had to bring around candles to light the place. There was music playing that night also, but after the power was cut the only person that could keep playing was the drummer who sitting in the dark got into a real groove.

Took a huge amount of shots last night, but I was really struck by Roderick here playing his Kora alongside Ben on guitar and Michael on Cello. What a magical mix of instruments, the connection was palpable.
