Spring floats to the top

DDW March 2014 Challenge - Supernatant

The Spring flowers are coming through! Today's challenge was "supernatant", which means floating to the surface, and in chemistry, references the fact that there is also sediment beneath. So this is my representation. The glass beads at the bottom of the bowl represent the cold of winter, and the bergenia cordofolia (winterglow) flowers, also known as Elephant's Ear flowers (because of the very large leaves), are floating on top. Spring has now floated to the top, and we are enjoying the new colour.
