Kotata

This excessively prickly bramble is a three-season delight. In spring it has these flowers, which are 5cm (2in) across. In summer it bears big, black berries that have a wonderful flavour. Then in autumn it puts on a colourful show.

After two days and nights of warm, dry nor'wester gales that have sucked the moisture out of everything, we've had a sou'west change. It looks bleak, but will it bring rain? We can't count on it.

Last year: frilly poppy
