I got into teaching for the kids and the subject.
But this is what is has come to. Data.
This graces our staffroom walls. And this is only about a quarter of the display.
Every child in the whole school is ranked and colour coded.
We have to teach the colour not the child. We have to explain why somebody else's kids are coloured red and not green. We have to document and provide evidence for how we are moving the orange kids towards green. We have to demonstrate how we are challenging the green kids so they don't stop climbing the chart. And we have to prove that we have the paperwork to justify why the red kids are really red.
This takes more time that actually teaching the child how to paint and draw and imagine cool stuff that didn't exist before they came into my room.
It's all a bit sad.
