Ash Wednesday

The practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of adherents is a reminder of human mortality. A mini-cathedral full of worshipers thus celebrated the first day of lent. The tradition is that in a family, the husband applies ashes to the forehead of his children and his wife, and she reciprocates by applying ashes to his forehead.
