Ouverture cubaine

Ouverture cubaine from George Gershwin, that was the first piece in today's concert at Salle Pleyel. He initially took the inspiration from a two week holiday in Havana, Cuba in 1932. Most interesting to read is how the premiere at Lewisohn Stadium, New York on 16 August 1932 became a big success. Gershwin wrote:
It was, I really believe, the most exciting night I have ever had...17,845 people paid to get in and just about 5,000 were at the closed gates trying to fight their way in—unsuccessfully.

The picture shows 'the finale' of the interval. No idea who needed the extra large coffee ..
