School Of Pythagoras

The Grade 1 listed, School of Pythagoras, is the oldest building in St John's College and the oldest secular building in Cambridge. Originally built around 1200, before the University existed, it is two storeys, stone rubble and Barnack dressing. It was originally a private dwelling and has been renovated over the years, but the reason for the name is unclear. Up until recently it was used as a theatre for the students dramatic club, but is now being altered inside to accomodate a library. I have been trying to photograph this since October last year, but couldn't get into the site due to the work being carried out. It still isn't finished but I pleaded with one of the workmen to let me in and as the scaffolding was now down, he kindly showed me round.
