flying flicker...

...over the water

it took me a moment to realize - this was actually a north american flicker i'd caught - the flash of red - with outstretched wings - it had been hammering on a tree - i'd startled it walking by - thought it probably wouldn't turn out - and truth be told - it's not the best shot of all the ones i took today - however...

it is the one i kept coming back to - because it's out of the ordinary - how often do i capture a flicker? - not very! - i'm coming to find it's that which i want to have in my journal now - those shots which are more elusive - the ones i may not run across every day - or find more difficult - is it important to me that it's the most perfect shot - crisp, detailed, focused, all that? of course that would be ideal - but in a perfect world - i know i can't have everything - and i know i'm not the greatest photographer of all time - so for me - i'm content with the thrill of the chase - the hunt - that pounding and increase of my heart - you know what i'm saying? the rush you get when you simply know it's going to happen - then you look back in the view finder - to see - what you thought might not be - and joy spreads through you - you've experienced a thrill of victory in a moment's time - now that, my friends - is what makes for...

a

happy day.....
