Mother and child icon

On my way up to Derby today to stay with my Mum for the weekend. This is an icon she made several years ago while on a retreat at Morley in Derbyshire. She's always had a gift as an artist; one of the sadnesses for her now is that her eyesight is too poor to allow her to draw, read, knit or do any of the creative things she enjoys (she suffers from wet AMD).
But her mind is as sharp as ever and we have some lovely conversations - and now the weather is getting better, she can get out into the garden, which always lifts her spirits. She's 90 (91 this June), living in her own home and mostly able to look after herself, with regular visits from my brother, sister and me, plus weekly home help with cleaning, etc. So there's a great deal to be thankful for.
