Fridge

One of my colleagues is performing in Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia this week so a group of us from work went to the Unicorn Theatre in Abingdon this evening. I’d never heard of it but was really taken by the 89-seater Elizabethan-style theatre, created in 1953 out of the Checker Hall in Abingdon Abbey. During the interval we explored some of the rest of the abbey, including this 15th century Long Gallery with its incongruous fridge.

I’d seen the play before and was slightly apprehensive about what a local amateur dramatics group would do to it. I needn’t have worried – an impressive performance and a thoroughly good evening.
