Rotorua Museum

Today's trip was from Gisborne to Rotarua. Much of it was through forests and areas that seemed sparsely populated. So I was surprised in one community area to see a 100+ cars parked along the roads and in a park. There were people of all ages, not sure what was going on.

When we got checked in to the motel we went down to the Government Gardens to check out the Museum, the building seen in the blip. It was built in the early 1900's as a Spa for therapeutic treatments using the water from nearby thermal springs. It lost its popularity in the 1940's and has been used for other purposes.

PS There is a hot tub in the court yard of each of the units at this motel (and in all the others I expect). The water is heated by means of a Down Bore Heat Exchanger. So tonight we have sat in the tub at 9pm, toasty warm, until the tips of my fingers are like prunes!!! Cannot remember the last time I spent so long in a bath I had a bath!!! It's always showers to conserve water.
