What struck my fancy

The Australian Soldier

This cemetery in Rotherham (see map) is very close to my old school which we toured today as part of the Old Boys event. Apart from my grandparents who are interred there, are a few war graves from WWI.

This is of Driver Gower from Tasmania, injured in 1918, convalescing well in the English Lake District after an injury and doing well. He visited friends in Rotherham but had the ill fortune to contract influenza during the pandemic of that year, which affected some 500 million people and killed 10 - 20% of them, particularly young adults.
