Harbour

Out taking a morning walk along the harbour, pity gotta leave later.

Kyleakin, in the Strath area of the Island, is separated from the Mainland and Kyle of Lochalsh by a narrow strait, the Kyle. The village used to be the main landing point for ferries to the Island; that ferry has now been replaced by the Skye Bridge but Kyleakin continues to be the main "Gateway to Skye".

The remains of Castle Moil overlook the Kyle. The castle (then known as Dun Acainn) was built by Clan Mackinnon and was their home from the late 15th century until early in the 17th century. After this the castle fell into disrepair and all that remains is an impressive ruin - the Gaelic version of the modern name, Caisteal Maol, can be translated as Bare Castle.
