Fuliginous

fu·lig·i·nous
[fyoo-lij-uh-nuhs]
adjective
1.
sooty; smoky: the fuliginous air hanging over an industrial city.
2.
of the color of soot, as dark gray, dull brown, black, etc.

A bit of a stretch with today's vocabulary word, but I absolutely had to post this picture today.

Last night, Richard and I met old friends for dinner. We hadn't seen them since before Christmas, and I was surprised when Katie handed me a present when we arrived at the restaurant.

Here is my belated Christmas gift -- the most exquisite little painting made by my incredibly talented friend of our sooty little Sally! It brought tears to my eyes. Katie has captured Sally's expression and demeanour so well, I expect her to jump right out of the frame!
