Moeraki boulders

Checked out of our hostel this morning and drove up the coast to Oamaru, stopping on the way to look at the Moeraki boulders - amazing spherical rocks (or more correctly, 'concretions') scattered across Moeraki beach.

Took lots of photos, then carried on to Oamaru. Ate lunch in the car down by the harbour, then checked into our motel. Another nice suite with a decent little kitchen area, so we decided to cook dinner here tonight.

Went back out to the Steampunk HQ museum. Fun place - not so much the kind of Steampunk we were expecting - felt like stepping into the set of Borderlands. Lots of heavy machinery, imaginatively modified. Out in the yard was a full-size train engine, a couple of old cars and a giant steel motorbike. Had fun turning wheels, pulling handles and pushing buttons (no hint of the usual health and safety restrictions you'd get back in the UK!)

Drove to check out another 'penguin beach' for later, then went to Countdown for dinner stuff. Came back to the motel, decided to give the penguins a misss, so stayed in and cooked a tasty chilli and had a drink (or three).
