Abandoned

Today, I walked up to the Botanic Garden with a few words in mind. Whilst I can only pick one a day, I can always go back for more photos!

This photograph shows one of the disused ventilation shafts for the Botanic Gardens Station. Plans for the Glasgow Central Railway were passed in 1888, with the railway opening in 1896. This part of the line entered the park close to the main gate and left at Kirklee Station near Kirklee Gate. Botanic Gardens Station was the first on the line to be closed, on the 6th of February 1939 with the entire line being closed on the 5th of October 1964.

Today's word was given to me by Karen, a university friend.
