Pod Chocolate

In Ubud we discovered this excellent jem called Pod Chocolate. After arriving and getting a delicious welcome drink - a chocolate shooter - they take you on a tour through the stages of chocolate making. From flower to bar, we saw it all. The best part is they let you taste each stage. First we sampled the beans directly from the pod (shown in the photo) - you just suck on the sweet white part. Then they ferment the beans, roast them, de-shell them, grind them (into nibs - these taste GREAT!), make the buttery 100% chocolate, and then add in the sugar to make the different types. We then donned hats and aprons and made our own! All the while, elephants were roaming around us, and the sun was shining. It was a beautiful and delicious way to spend an afternoon!
