Fasnacht

Today was the first full day of Fasnacht. After a lazy morning E, N and I went to watch the Carnival – those taking part parade around Basel for three days (only stopping for short breaks). The costumes, bands and colours were amazing and all the streets (and those watching the parade) were covered in confetti. We managed to acquire sweeties, flowers and a horseradish thrown from the passing floats.

After stopping for a sausage and beer on the banks of the Rhine we headed to a flat party to watch more bands, etc parade by. After a few beers we went back out to the street to enjoy even more parading before going to a couple of bars for drinks and dancing. We followed a parading band over the Rhine home dancing to the drumming all the way.
