The Easebourne=Midhurst Handshake

There is a road and foot bridge over the river Rother at the edge of Midhurst, to the north. Here the water gushes and foams, ideal IMHO for a mini hydro scheme for the town where once a watermill stood. To the north is the village of Easebourne which for centuries was more important than Midhurst. Nowadays the roles are reversed.

On the footpath over the bridge, you can see an old stone relief carving of two hands clasped, symbolising the friendship and collaboration between Easebourne and Midhurst. I wonder how many people, like me, have walked past it many times without noticing.
