storm warnings ahead

I spent the afternoon pottering around this very historic area of NZ. These are two of the oldest buildings in New Zealand - Kemp House built in 1882 as a Mission House, and the Stone Store completed in 1836 as a storehouse for the mission. I took this from the site of an early settlement in the district - a Maori Pa on the top of a nearby hill.

I have posted this today as we have severe storm warmings for the weekend - the result of cyclone lusi which is in the Pacific now. The little tidal stream will become a raging torrent when the storm hits and local communities are being warned to prepare for flooding. For many years the road went past the store and over a bridge, but after it was washed away many times a new road was been built on higher ground and the higher foot bridge built across the river.
