sea stack

Up at 5am, off to the station and up north to Kingussie. I'm doing a climbing course that I found though the mountaineering club, to learn a bit how to lead climb and general climbing practice outdoors.

We arrived at 9, met Ian who would be teaching us, and went back to his house for a coffee before we set off. We drove though the wild to Cummingston, a great sandstone cliff with a sea stack that we climbed. I did my first lead climb, despite the fact that I had Ian abseiling beside me to check my gear placement. Hard to know where to look to place them initially, I expect that get easier with practice!

Climbed until the sun went down.
