Mysterious markings

Today I came across a boulder of old red Elgin sandstone covered in mysterious incised circular markings, each some 1 to 2 inches in diameter. Could these be cup markings made by man back in the Neolithic? Or are they something quite different? What do you think? All will be revealed tomorrow!
