Back to Auchindoun

Another late night escapade, but not quite as late as the Aurora hunt. This was the first attempt at star trails at Auchindoun Castle (as planned here). Needed a bright moon to illuminate the castle itself as it was too far away to light paint, but think it was a bit too bright, and there weren't as many stars visible as you would hope for when there'd been about 3 clouds all day long... Harumph.

Still, we have some trails there, and hanging around outside in the moonlit wilderness was pretty fun. I'd always planned this shot as portrait, but went landscape on the night - something else different to try next time, along with less moon - this was just over 3/4, so will aim for 1/2 at the next attempt.

(For those who want to know, 95 x 30s; f4, 70mm, IS0 800)
