British Blockhouse

A history lesson for today.

During the Anglo-Boer War during the early 1900's the British built many hundreds of blockhouses at vital points around the country and this relic, situated on the banks of the Berg River near Wellington, was the southernmost of a chain protecting the rail link to the north from boer commandos. It is prefabricated from stone with cement gun outlets, an ironwork lookout and a corrugated iron roof.
It has been proclaimed a national monument.
