It's one way of looking at it

I am reading Graham Greene's novel "Travels With My Aunt" first published in 1969 when this photograph of my family was originally taken while on holiday in Crail, a fishing village in Fife.
A character in the book, a CIA man, worrying about his daughter says, ' When you have a child you are condemned to be a father for life. They go away from you. You can't go away from them'
I would change the verb 'condemned ' and substitute 'privileged' and still go along with the sentiment.
Sorry to feature you in this way folks but you were and are of that time.
