Bridge of Allan Sluice

Just north of Stirling lies the town of Bridge Of Allan. This town, built in theJust north of Stirling lies the town of Bridge Of Allan. Built on the banks of the Allan Water, Bridge Of Allan can trace its history back to the Iron Age, when a hill fort was constructed near the town. Since then the town has prospered over the years, and is now a thoroughly attractive place to live and to visit.

Near the bridge for which the town is named, this sluice system was used to divert the flow from the Allan Water into a lade to power a mill. It is remarkably well preserved, and you can see the gear wheels and the sluice in the picture, and in the background the pale grey structure is the Bridge of Allan itself.

This photograph was taken with my new toy - a Samsung Galaxy S4 that I picked up yesterday on contract renewal. I chose this model principally for its camera - it seems to be the top-rated camera on an Android phone. The picture was taken using the app "HDR Camera+", and has had minimal Photoshop processing (a bit of contrast boost, resize and sharpen). I'm looking forward to playing more with this phone!
