David up and playing records this morning.

Picked Rose up, chatted with Bruna's mum re Portugal, Portuguese. She lent me a dictionary. She misses the weather, but not the economic climate. Everyone I speak to that aren't originally Scottish, but reside (or used to reside) here, have the same story; our [their] country has no jobs, there is no free health care, there is no free schooling, there is no financial support for the unemployed.

Basically there is zero welfare state.

In other news; I was sad to hear of the passing of Tony Benn, major hero of my dad's, probably the only remaining actual socialist anywhere near government, now gone. It would have been dad's 77th birthday today.
