Wrong One!

It should have been the Anna's hummingbird I blipped today, as he was the appropriate color for St. Patrick's Day.

However, a male Rufous hummingbird has returned to our neighborhood, and after a series of skirmishes with the over-wintering Anna's male this weekend, he appears to have gained control of the hummingbird feeder on our front porch, despite his smaller size.

In direct sunlight, the dark area of the male Rufous' throat -- the gorget -- shines with red-gold iridescence -- rather like light reflecting from a shield or armor!

We could hang a second feeder, but I doubt that Mr. Rufous would be willing to share.
