horns of wilmington's cow

Hey Hardy, Gizza Snog...

This is Lord Nelson's jacket, the one he was wearing when he was fatally wounded. The very one. That's the bullet hole in the left shoulder, looking all innocent, but masking the fact it shattered his collarbone and lodged in his spine.

Really nice day (for the most part) in London. Up early to wander from Clerkenwell down to the river to get a boat to Greenwich, taking in the Cutty Sark (from outside), and wonder of Christopher Wren's genius at the old Naval College. Greenwich Market saw to lunch, and as things started getting busier we made our escape once more along the Thames.

Filling time there was a chance to go up Tower Bridge (which I've always wanted to do) and with crowds once more beginning to puncture the calm we retreated to the hotel (after a walk along the river to the Tate) before making our way out to Soho, firstly for drinks downstairs in Mark Hix's place, then dinner at the Peruvian restaurant Ceviche. We'd gone to a pop-up the team had done at Mark Greenaway's place last year, and happily the original restaurant didn't disappoint in the slightest.

With Leicester Square absolutely mobbed we made it back to the calm of Clerkenwell (really like this area of town) and with Mel sleeping off the day I took a spin to Aldgate on the tube, walking back to St Paul's via the Gherkin, for some night photography.

So yeah, not often I'll say this, but a really good day in London. We're managing to do what we did in VEnice a few years back and, for the most part, getting to the busy parts early before they're busy, heading to the quieter parts in the meantime, and rounding off the days with some cracking food. It's the way forward.
