My life in a day?

By MartnA

Brighton Station 5635

Never noticed this before, apparently there are duplicates at other Southern Railways stations.
Inscription reads:

In honour of five thousand six hundred and thirty five members of the staff of the London Brighton and South Coast Railway Co. who joined the forces of the Crown during the war of 1914 – 1918 and of whom those whose names appear below gave their lives for victory in that great struggle to secure the liberty of the world.
‘Their name liveth for evermore.’

There are 531 names listed

Seems like a huge number of people from one company but I suppose the railways were more labour intensive in those days. Also less unlucky than the average.
