Grumpy Old Man

First flowers!

I planted Clematis armandii on a new fence a couple or three years ago and it's flowering now for the first time. An evergreen species, it's native to C & W China, N. Burma and N. Vietnam, so it's not absolutely hardy, but will thrive with a little shelter in colder places. The flowers are said to be fragrant, but in the hurry to get a picture I forgot to have a sniff! It's already putting out long whippy new shoots as it did last year, which seem pretty tough as they with stood quite a few degrees of frost then.
