Harry Lauders Walking Stick

It was teeming down for most of the day. On the Cooriedog walk I got soaked in a way that you can't get soaked any more so you just shrug shoulders and get on with it. And you feel you are winning. Strange.

I bought a Corylus Avellana Contorta which is still in the container waiting to be planted out. It is also known as the Corkscrew Hazel or Harry Lauder's walking stick. Harry Lauder was a Scottish music hall entertainer who created a very sentimental image of Scotland and its people. He has much to answer for. Keep right on to the end of the road indeed. And he had a walking stick as a prop.

I think any plant with 'contorta' in its Sunday name deserves attention.
