Moving Into The Unknown

Nicaragua

Winter term I had the privilege of co-teaching a class - International Community Service in Action - that ends with a service learning trip to Nicaragua where we will work with the NGO, AMOS Health and Hope. We'll be spending time in the remote community of San Jose de la Mula where our team of students will help to build and install 40 bio-sand water filters in homes that currently have no access to clean water. We will also spend time in educational activities involving W.A.S.H. principles (water, sanitation, hygiene), work to repair a health clinic, and do home health visits for the chronically ill. AMOS is an excellent organization that engages in capacity building to empower locals to create sustainable healthcare at the local level. They only work with communities who have invited them to work there and only on projects that are relevant and decided upon by the local people. It's quite an amazing group. I will be able to blip for the first few days of training in Managua, but will be off the grid for much of next week. Hope to post photos when I return! Hoping my blip friends have a wonderful week! Hasta luego!
