An Artist's Life

Buffalo Robe

I just have to share the quill work, beading and painting of friend Yukon's buffalo robe that was on my Mar. 19 blip. This is meticulous workmanship and was common practice amongst the Great Plains tribes. This hide is brain-tanned and smoked before the quills, beads and paint are applied. The men no longer bead or quill. They feel they are taking work away from widows and single women who need the money. Those who follow these old ways are the most gentle souls. I try to pattern my life the same.
