TROTTING

As the weather wasn't too bad today, I met up with George and we cycled over the River Forth to Newmills just outside Culross. On the way we stopped to watch this chap doing a bit of training for the forthcoming trotting season.

The origins of modern harness racing or trotting as it is often referred to, are to be found in North America where trotting harness races became a popular rural past-time by the end of the 18th century. In the early 19th century the first harness racing tracks were established and trotting races were incorporated in the list of attractions of any self-respecting county fair. The popularity of the sport has grown immensely over the years and trotting events now take place all over the world.

Thanks to George for suggesting this for my blip.
